My most recent project has been looking at people who don’t fit the societal definition of ‘normal’. The aim is to make people think about their judgment and impressions of the sitter in the painting. We live in a society that is so quick to judge others, Judging someone isn’t such a bad thing, it’s when we use this judgment to impose a standard that these people should live by; half the time we don’t even know them. I want you to judge these people in the paintings. Why did I paint them? What is their story? Why do they look like that? Remember they are people just like you and I, they live in this world to and why should we all be treated differently based on your appearance?

My name is Lydia. I am an artist from a small town in the South of England. My passion for art has been with me my whole life however, I have only been painting for the last 2 years and oil painting for the past year. I have been drawing ever since I was little but my love for painting has recently flourished. If you work hard, you can do anything you put your mind to.

My most prevalent skill is oil painting. It’s the one I have been doing for the least amount of time but is my favourite medium. I also paint in acrylic and I have been recently been dabbling in watercolour. Painting isn’t my only skill, I can draw in graphic or in colour pencil. This is something I have been doing for years so it is pretty much second nature to me!
